April 2012
We have officially moved! What a busy month…where to start, probably with our new house! After weeks of packing and making appointments, we moved the last weekend of the month! It really couldn’t have gone any smoother. Most of the credit for the move going so well should go to Deb, who is a great packer and very good at making a move go seamlessly. She spent a majority of April packing up the condo and I was good for carrying boxes to our garage! We received possession on April 25th at about 6pm. Deb, Mom, Lawton and I spent that first night cleaning, moving fragile stuff, moving closets and the fridge. The next morning, Pat, my Mom, Deb and Lawton were unpacking at the house a few more SUV loads while I accompanied the movers at the condo and our storage unit. By 12:30, the truck was unloaded and we were eating pizza! We spent the rest of the day unpacking boxes and Paul put together our ski lift and hung a swing for Allison. That Friday was Allison’s birthday and we didn’t do much out of the ordinary except enjoy our new house. We broke in our new grill and hosted a cookout with Tom, Tracy, Lawton, Brandon and Diane that evening and had some guests stop by throughout the entire weekend. On Sunday, we had our flag football team over for some beers and to see the new house. Everyone seems to like it, and the sunroom is usually the biggest hit!
As mentioned, April 27th was Allison’s birthday. I’ve said this before, but it is hard to believe that she was born an entire year ago…it has gone so fast. She is moving around quickly and sometimes hard to catch. The most fun/frustrating is trying to get her diaper on her after you have given her a bath…because she crawls around and has lotion on, so it is hard to get a grip! She is 29.5 inches long and 19lbs-12ozs. We have started to wean her off of the formula and are trying to give her just about anything we are eating. That sometimes works, but we always have some of her favorites in case we need it. Fruit, cheerios, crackers, cheese sticks, and ground beef are things she liked most recently. We have been warned that can change quickly! She is pulling up on our legs and onto things, but having a hard time figuring out how to get down and that can cause her to crash down sometimes. After a few tears, she is usually up and ready for round 2!
We had Allison’s birthday party the weekend before her actual birthday because it coincided with the Race for the Cure and we usually have plenty of out-of-town visitors for that each year. Aunt Barbs, Aunt Wiz, Randy, Anna, Julie, and Kyle came to town to help celebrate. We had a party at the condo and Beth, Matt, Mark, Frank, Jan, Mom, Pat and Paul were all in attendance. The party went well and Allison got some great new clothes/toys/books! We didn’t end up going the Race due to weather, but Deb took her mom and aunts downtown to be part of the festivities for a short while. It was a great weekend, but we are looking forward to next year when we can host everyone in our new house.
A few more items from this month:
• We went to the MSMC Annual Fund Dinner where the speakers were Bob Griese and Joe Tiller. Robbie Hummel won an award for Male Collegiate Comeback Player of the Year.
• We celebrated Easter with a brunch at my mom’s condo and Matt made omelets. He made a big mistake showing us how good he was at those, because I doubt we will ever have another breakfast again that doesn’t include omelets.
• We also had our usual lamb dinner on Easter at the Bassetts. Jon, Jane, Lawton, Tom, Tracy, Deb and I enjoyed way too much food and wine. Allison accommodated us just fine by sleeping upstairs and allowing for us to enjoy a fun evening with friends.
