July
has been a busy month. Plenty of time
with time with family and friends, along with Deb going back to work and our
first trip with 2 kids!
We
celebrated Deb’s birthday quietly this year.
We had dinner after we put Allison to bed and enjoyed some wine on the
back deck. Actually, we both probably
enjoyed a little too much wine since it was only a Wednesday! She got several gifts from family and
friends. I went and picked up breakfast
from her favorite place the Friday after her birthday. We celebrated her birthday on the first night
of Beachmo and she was able to celebrate with her parents when the visited the
last few days of the month. She received
some gift cards, a purse and a programmable crock-pot. You know you officially a mom when you are
excited about a crock-pot!
The
last weekend of the month was our annual (23 years in a row) trip to St.
Joseph, MI for a beach and hotel weekend.
This was our first night as a family in a hotel room and we were
nervous, but both girls slept well.
Allison really enjoyed the indoor pool and swimming with her cousins. We had a nice family dinner at a Mexican
restaurant next to the hotel on Friday night.
Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate and when we arrived at the
beach the next day, we sat in the car and debated if we should even set-up on
the beach. Then it started to rain and
it made the decision easier. We went
back to the hotel and swam with everyone for a while and then headed home. The weather didn’t get any better, and with
the rain came gusts of wind that just didn’t make it any fun to really be
sitting on the beach.
We
had to leave the weekend early because I was heading to Italy for a work
project. I left on July 28th
and came back on August 2nd.
Deb’s parents came to visit for the first part of the week and Deb had
Tracy come over on Thursday to help out and Kyle was driving through for work
on Friday, so she had some help when she needed it. We were in a small town about an hour away
from Milan that was on the countryside.
It was a really great, quiet town that showed a lot of what Italy had to
offer (wine and food). Hurco acquired a
company close to this town, and I was going to explain some of our procedures
and monthly schedules.
Sarah
has started to sleep much better. She
has started to sleep to at least 5:30 and her crying during the night has
decreased. As I say that, she has a cold
and the congestion has her waking up a little earlier, but at least we know we
are making progress and our house is beginning to get some uninterrupted
sleep!
Allison
has really started to talk a lot more.
She can also be very direct and stubborn at times…I’m going to blame
that on her being 2 and it being a phase.
The easier blame would be on myself, but hopefully she out-grows this
phase because I don’t think I have! She
had continued a gymnastics class that was a gift from Beth and Matt for her
birthday. She loves to “jump in the
blocks” and do “somersaults.” When she
learned I was going to Italy, she would ask me if I was going in an “airplane”
and every time she sees one in the sky, she says it is heading to Italy.
Sarah’s Thing of the Month
Sarah started going to daycare this month and she seems
to be doing well. She has already
started to roll over from her back to her stomach. She coo’s constantly and smiles a lot. She is eating very well and as mentioned
above, already got her first cold! The
same teacher that watched Allison is watching Sarah.
Allison’s Things of the Month
Allison has started to memorize books and wants to
“read” them. So she sits there and turns
pages and just says the books out loud, but is usually on the wrong page. She also has discovered corn on the cob and
loves it!
