January 2015

January 2015

January marked a relatively quiet month in our house.  With not much planned on the weekends and not being able to go outside, it seemed like we made the most of it staying at home.  That doesn’t mean we didn’t have much going on, but compared to the last few months, January was a nice break before a busy spring and inevitable summer!

For my birthday this month, we had some family members over to our house the Sunday the 18th to enjoy some cupcakes and drinks.  Everyone stayed for a few hours and I think everyone enjoyed being together and playing with the girls.  Sarah is starting to be more outgoing when others are around, which makes it easier for Deb and I since she doesn’t need to be with us the entire time!  On my actual birthday, Deb made some meatloaf and potatoes and we enjoyed opening some presents.

We were supposed to go to WV to go skiing toward the end of the month, but I sprained my ankle which cancelled the trip.  We figured if I couldn’t drive the Traverse and couldn’t ski, it wasn’t going to be much fun for me around a bunch of snow!  Randy and Anna were happy to come visit and we appreciated them coming this way to make it easier for me.  I required to wear a boot 24 hours a day for 4 weeks to help it heal.  We still took a vacation day that Friday and we went to the Children’s museum.  The girls always enjoy it, but each time it seems to be more fun as Sarah becomes more mobile and can communicate more.  We went out to eat that evening at a pizza place nearby, and both girls were so excited about the pizza.  Unfortunately, Sarah doesn’t understand that they have to prepare our pizza after we arrive, so she and I had to walk around a little bit until her pizza was done and cooled off!  We enjoyed celebrating Christmas with Randy and Anna also, where Deb got a Fit-bit and I got a pair of Bose headphones.  It snowed a few inches while Randy and Anna were here, so everyone got outside to play in the snow.  Some neighbor kids were outside also, so the kids enjoyed playing together.  One of the boys hit Allison with a snowball and we had to explain to Allison that was part of playing in the snow and she had to get over it!

Sarah’s Things of the Month

Sarah has starting talking more and more and we can even understand some of it.  She is waking up in the night crying and carrying on and other than letting her cry, there isn’t much we can do about it.  If we go in to see her, she usually stops and laughs at us or wants to play.  That isn’t my idea of fun at 4AM!

Allison’s Things of the Month

We had a parent/teacher conference at Allison’s school and she received pretty good remarks.  They were happy she could count to 30 and spell her name.  The teacher says she behaves most of the time.  Her swimming classes are coming along well and she continues to enjoy it.

A few more items from this month:

  • Deb had been pretty busy adjusting her new role at work.  Sometimes, she has to go in early or stay late to attend a meeting or work on something.  She is also on her laptop a few hours at home a week to keep up with the workload, but she seems to enjoy the new challenges.
  • I’ve been working on transitioning my new employee at work.  He is adapting well and learning quickly.  This should allow for me to take on some new challenges and projects, which I’m looking forward to.
  • We had a gas fireplace installed and everyone loves it.  I’m not quite sure we will love the gas bill this month because it is on most of the time since the girls like the “pretty fire.”
  • I continued playing in the Chatard Alumni league and it has been fun until I sprained my ankle playing ball at work and couldn’t play.  I also went out to have drinks with the Chatard guys one time this month.
  • We went over to a neighbor’s house for dinner one weekend.  The have 2 boys that are the same age as our girls and all the kids played well together.
  • Deb had dinner with Amy Gellert this month.  It has been awhile since they got a chance to catch up.
  • Deb had a girl’s night at Boombazz with the Purdue ladies.
  • My aunt Judy passed away this month.  She had suffered from Alzheimer’s for several years and her life was celebrated with family and friends.
  • I went to Baconfest with Lawton, Tom, Brandon and Ferrand.  It was a celebration of bacon and then we bar-hopped afterwards and enjoyed some day-drinking.
