Mother‘s
day weekend started with Deb having breakfast with the girls at school on
Friday. “Muffins with Mom” is an annual
thing that has become a lot more fun this year as both girls are excited about
it. Not only do they get to eat
breakfast with mom, but they get to have chocolate muffins! On Saturday, we met up with our friend Sara
and her son Evan at Broad Ripple Park and the kids played for a while and we
tried to catch up in between chasing the kids around. On Mother’s Day, the girls and I continued
our tradition of going to Lowes to get flowers for mom in the morning (which
allows for Deb to have a few quiet hours to herself). As mentioned, it is a lot more fun as both
girls get more excited about it. We are
still a few years away from the girls actually HELPING mom plant the flowers,
but they enjoyed picking them out! I
pushed the girls on the swing set while Deb planted the flowers later that
afternoon.
The
following weekend, we had the Watkins family over for a cookout on Friday
night. The girls played well together
and it is amazing how much better kids eat when they are with other kids. On Saturday evening, we went out to
Peterson’s restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. Mom watched the girls that evening while we
went to dinner and then decided to head over to Tom and Tracy’s to have a few
beers with them, the Steffey’s and Lawton.
Everyone had a great time and we got home around midnight. We definitely needed a nap on Sunday! On Sunday morning, we went to a brunch
gathering at Frank and Jan’s to see Chelsea and celebrate Chris graduating
college. It was fun to see everyone and
the girls enjoyed getting all the attention!
Memorial
Day weekend started off with our daycare “Mini 500” party. Both girls participated this year and it was
as enjoyable as it always is when you have little kids racing around. Sarah’s class ran around a large room at the
school…doing some races and then doing a few dances with the parents. Allison’s class actually raced some big
wheels outside and then enjoyed a popsicle. We all ate lunch and then they went
home with Debbie and I went back to work.
That evening, Deb had some drinks at the Bassett’s house and I stayed
home with the girls. We had our family
pictures the next morning at Holliday Park.
The girls did well and we are excited to see the photos soon. That afternoon we went to a cookout at the
Pigman’s house. They rented a bouncy
house and the girls loved it. We had the
Anderson’s over for dinner on Sunday and all of the girls played well together
on the swing set and water table. It was
a great Memorial Day weekend and we enjoyed the ability to see so many
friends.
Sarah’s Things of the Month
We had our parent / teacher conference with Sarah’s new
teacher this month. Since Sarah has only
been in her room for 2 weeks, she thinks Sarah is the “best kid in her class”
and “very polite.” I quickly asked,
“Doesn’t she yell “Hey!!!” repeatedly sometimes?” The teacher looked at me and I said, “OK…then
we will see what your thoughts are in the fall when we meet again.” It isn’t that Sarah is a bad kid…she can just
be a tantrum thrower at a drop of a hat.
Allison’s Things of the Month
We had our parent / teacher conference with Allison’s
teacher and she was very complimentary of where Allison is with her counting,
ability to write letters, and any other thing she has tried to for a normal 4
year-old. She has a few times where she
needs to learn to control her emotions when trying to share or if she doesn’t
like what someone says. Allison also had "twin day" at daycare. She and her friend Colin dressed alike. He even wore a pair of glasses all day!!
A few more items from this
month:
- We went to a cookout at our neighbor’s house earlier in May. The Sniadecki’s live 2 houses away and it sure was nice to just walk to a party and get home quickly when Sarah was ready for bed!
- I met up with Tom and Tracy at the Brugge for a few beers.
- Deb had breakfast with Julie Gebhart.
- For our anniversary this year, we decided it would be fun to watch our wedding and reception DVD with the girls. They both liked it, but had lots of questions about who people were and why they weren’t there!
- We has our “old” neighbors over for pizza, the Smiths. We say “old” because they are currently renting out their house and attending school at Duke. Allison asked on a weekly basis “When is Lucas going to come back?”
- Deb went to a work function at BW3’s and was able to get peer pressured into having a “blazing” wing!
- I went over to John’s house and had a few beers with him and Gareth.
- We joined the K of C pool this year. We have already been 2 times and it is great! The girls seem to be excited about it and we have met up with Mo and Mike both times and all the kids seemed to play well together.
