March 2016

March was a pretty typical month for us.  Moved pretty quickly and there were several fun moments with the girls and the usual times where we simply wish the whining or crying would stop.  The girls get along for the most part very well, but there are times when their stubbornness or competitive spirit really can ruin a fun time.  I have no idea where they get those traits from…

Let’s start with the one trip we took in March.  We left on a Thursday to go to Great Wolf Lodge, which is a waterpark in Cincinnati.  We arrived and got into our room, and the girls were really excited and we changed and quickly made our way to the waterpark.  They have a great area with slides perfect for our girls and they were able to “play by themselves” while we supervised.  There was also a wave pool that the girls enjoyed swimming in and the also loved the “normal” pool where they would just swim around and try to catch mom or dad.  They had some fun in the arcade that evening with mom while I watched Purdue lose in the NCAA tournament.  Allison and Sarah loved the fact they got to sleep in bunk beds and they did pretty well with that.  For some reason, the water area doesn’t open until 10AM most days, so we were left to find something to do.  We decided to go to the arcade at 9AM and go duck-pin bowling.  After that, we hit up the water area for a few hours and then ate lunch.  After we left, we went on a short trip over to the Depps to spend Friday and Saturday morning hanging out with them and their kids.  We hadn’t seen them in what felt like forever, so we enjoyed hanging around their house, letting the kids play together and allowing the adults to watch some basketball.

This month marked the 5 year anniversary of my dad passing away.  It was on a Monday, so it was my night to pick up the girls.  I took them to the cemetery on the way home and it was interesting.  We got out of the car and started to pray, and then Allison says, “We are tired of praying, can we stand and watch you?”  I told her that was fine.  After that, I got a little teary-eyed and Allison asked me, “Why do you look like you are going to cry?”  I told her, “I miss my dad, wouldn’t you miss me?”  Sarah proceeds to run over and give me a hug.  Allison proceeds to say, “You still have a mom.”  Good point Allison…

Sarah’s Thing of the Month

Sarah is a train-wreck and a sweetheart at the same time.  She will go to cuddling and giving a hug to throwing a 20 minute tantrum because her banana broke into 2 pieces on the way to school.  Her constant need for me seems to be decreasing as she becomes more independent along with wanting Debbie.

Allison’s Thing of the Month

We signed up Allison again for basketball at the YMCA.  She has gotten a lot better and seems to be having lots of fun with it.  She has made a few baskets and is enjoying spending time with her friends along with “Coach Daddy.”   Allison also got a good report at the eye doc this month and her eyes are doing great.

A few more items from this month:
  • We enjoyed a quiet Easter by going to mass at 8AM and then meeting up with Beth and Matt here at our house to watch the girls search for eggs.  The girls enjoyed playing with their aunt and uncle.
  • The Vandervaarts visited in March and we enjoyed hanging out with them and letting the kids play together.  The adults went to a fundraiser for Timmy Global Health with Beth & Matt.
  • We got additional insulation added to our attic & crawl-space to help with heating and cooling.
  • I’m now the treasurer of our homeowner’s association, as if anyone didn’t see that coming!
  • We enjoyed a great time at a wedding in early March.  It was for the QB for the flag football team we used to play on and Donnie looked to be very happy and having a great time.  Deb and I took an Uber to and from the wedding, so we really had fun catching up with friends.
  • I took another quick trip to Minnesota and have another one planned in April.  That should be it for a while.
  • We have had several issues with our Chevy Traverse but thanks to Julie, most of them have been taken care of with minimal headaches.  We are contemplating what we want to do next with our cars.
  • We went over to a last-minute cookout at the Foulkes.  We had a great time with them and the Watkins.
  • Deb enjoyed a spa afternoon with some friends and then we met up with those ladies and their husbands that evening in Westfield for dinner and drinks.
  • I met out John and Brian for beers and to watch a Pacers game.
