April 2016

April is always going to be one of the busiest month of the year for us with both of the girls having birthdays in the month.  Between both birthdays and another trip to Minnesota, Deb and I were able to enjoy a trip to Mexico to celebrate our 10 year anniversary!

We probably should just start with that trip, even though it was toward the middle of the month.  We left on a Wednesday and got caught up with the usual delays in Chicago.  After a 3 hour delay, we took off and finally got to enjoy the start of vacation.  Upon our arrival in Cancun, we had a private transfer take us to our resort, which allowed us to have a few beers in the car and Deb got a private Spanish lesson with our driver!  This resort was off the charts, better in just about every way to any resort we have been to.  Let’s start with our room, which included 3 TV’s, 3 showers (one was outside) and was probably bigger than the condo that Deb and I lived in when we had Allison.  After that, each meal was very good and there wasn’t a bad thing on the menu.  Finally, the staff was really there to entertain and make sure your trip was unforgettable.  Our usual day started with a light workout and then we would hit up breakfast and the beach.  After lunch, we would find somewhere to maybe nap and then hit up the pool (and pool bar) in the afternoon.  After we had enough, we would clean up for dinner and shortly after that, we were done.  All the sun and drinks really took a lot out of us!  We also treated ourselves to massages in the morning on the beach.  The only negative to the trip was that we were supposed to go with Joe and Ali Rago, but they had a last minute issue come up that caused them to have to cancel.  That being said, we still had a great time and really enjoyed ourselves!

Sarah’s Thing of the Month
Sarah turned 3 this month and she celebrated for several days.  Beth and Matt came over to celebrate the night before her birthday as they weren’t able to make it to her party that weekend.  On her actual birthday, we went bowling and the girls had a great time rolling the ball down the alley.  Her party that weekend was attended by Nana, Granddaddy, Grandma, Frank, and Jan.  She received several orange outfits and plenty of gear related to Paw Patrol.  Sarah also had her checkup and she is 2 inches shorter than Allison at 3 years old.  The doctor said everything looked good and that hopefully the temper tantrums will start to calm down as she gets older.

Allison’s Thing of the Month
Allison turned 5 this month and she celebrated for an entire week!  Beth and Matt came over to celebrate the night before her birthday as they weren’t able to make it to her party that weekend.  They got her a fishing pole, which she will be able to use at Grandma’s lake with her cousins.  On her actual birthday, we went to Chuck E Cheese and enjoyed a few hours of fun and games.  She had a party at “BounceU,” which is a place with several bounce houses, with many of her classmates and friends.  She also had a party that was attended by Nana, Granddaddy, Grandma, Frank, Jan, Chris & Mark.   Allison also had her annual checkup at the doctor and everything seemed to be going well.  Allison also went to 2 birthday parties in April, both of them were her classmates at school (Harper & Colin).

A few more items from this month:
  • We went to a cookout at Tom & Tracy’s and enjoyed hanging out with them, along with Lawton, Brandon and Diane.  The girls did well the first 45 minutes we were there and colored while we hung out, and then Tom pretty much entertained them for a few hours while we were able to hang out.  They did get to hear “Uncle Ben’s” (Lawton) laugh which they thought was hilarious.
  • We started getting ready for kindergarten starting this fall.  We are all signed up to start at Christ the King and went to a “New Parent Night” and learned a lot and retained as much as we could!  Allison also had her assessment this month for kindergarten.
  • Deb took the girls to their first movie, Zootopia, with the Sniadecki's.  The girls really enjoyed the movie (and the popcorn!)
  • I made my 10th trip to Minnesota since last July.  This trip had its up and downs, but the people are always very accommodating of my requests and the processes I’m trying to implement.
  • Due to 2 birthdays and the need for someone to watch the girls while we were in Mexico, Randy and Anna enjoyed spending half the month with us.  Randy flew to Rochester to spend some time with Julie while Anna stayed her ewith the girls while we were in Mexico.  We enjoyed their help while we were gone along with helping with the birthdays.  However, after having Anna here for over 2 weeks, I think she and I will need more Makers Mark as we either enjoy each other so much we just have too much fun…or we drive each other crazy and resort to drinking the entire time!
