December 2016
We have enjoyed a fun and very busy month of
December. With the girls being 3 &
5, they were really fun to watch this month as they got ready for Santa and
also had fun with the many events and visitors throughout the holiday
season.
We spent the Christmas holiday in Indy this
year. We started our Christmas break on
the 23rd where we went to see a movie (Moana) and wrapped
presents. On the 24th, we got
our house ready to host the Wahmans, Mark and Mom after mass for dinner. The girls had fun getting ready and they did
well at Christmas Eve mass. It was fun
to have everyone come over for a few drinks and food after mass. On Christmas morning, the girls were pretty
excited, but still slept until 7AM which was great. From Santa, Allison got a Rudolph stuffed
animal and Sarah got a “Sunshine Pooh,” which is a stuffed animal that sings
“You are my Sunshine.” Both girls also
got a cash registers so they could play store and restaurant and Santa brought
tickets to Disney on Ice in January.
This year, we started taking the girls shopping so they could buy
something for mom and dad. I took the
girls to Kohls and they loved picking out things for Deb, like an orange
workout shirt, a purple scarf, a necklace and some socks! They played with their new toys all day and
then we went to the Wahman’s house to have a nice ham meal with everyone and
exchange a few more gifts.
After Christmas, we got to start the fun of Christmas
break. This is our first “break” like
this as our daycare is always open during the holidays, so we usually took them
and worked or kept them home for a day or two.
Randy and Anna showed up on the 26th and we took the girls to
the Children’s museum on the 27th while Debbie went to work. We got there early and were only there for
about an hour and a half because it was getting so crazy busy there. We met up with Tom and Tracy for lunch at
Bent Rail brewery. It was fun to catch
up with them and then we went home. A
few days later, the girls and I went bowling with the Sniadecki’s and had fun
going out to lunch afterwards at Scotty’s.
By the time Friday rolled around, I was ready to “tap out” and let
Debbie take over for the 2nd week of Christmas break.
The weekend before Christmas, we celebrated with the
Vandervaarts at Mom’s condo. It sure is
getting a lot of fun to get all of those kids together as they play well
together and there isn’t too much tattling or whining. For years I’ve usually gone home with they
are in town because we have had 2 napping kids and it just made sense to go
home and help out with that. It is a lot
of fun now that I get to stay over at Mom’s place all day long with Allison and
I get to hang out with everyone that much more.
On Sunday, Pat & Paul, Mary & Don, and Linda & Megan came over
for dinner and that was a great opportunity to catch up with them and see how
they were all doing.
Sarah’s Thing of the Month
Sarah had a great time with “Breakfast with Santa” at
her preschool. She still loves the book
she got from Santa and we were really happy she asked Santa for the same thing
as when we went to see him with Allison!
Deb and I were able to attend with Sarah and she loved it.
Allison’s Thing of the Month
Allison had her first performance at her Christmas
show at Christ the King. Randy &
Anna, the Wahmans, Mom and Beth were all able to make it. Her class dressed up like farm animals and
sang a song during the K-4 Christmas program at her school. She talked about being nervous, but from how
loud she was singing, I think she was fine!
A few more items from this
month:
- Debbie took a trip to Vegas for work. It was a short trip (Thurs thru Sat) but I think she had fun with her co-workers!
- I met up with Sara Crawford for some drinks and dinner at The District Tap in early December.
- We went to see Santa at Sullivan’s Hardware this year with our neighbors. We all went to see Santa together and then met up at the Blackwelder’s for some pizza and drinks.
- The girls had their first overnight at Grandma’s condo! The first one was in mid-December when Deb and I had plans on Saturday evening and Sunday for the Colts vs. Texans and the other was on New Year’s Eve. They loved it!
- We went to the Ferrand’s Wawasee lake house again this year for New Year’s Eve. We had fun with Shannon and Mike, Lawton, the Bassetts, the Steffeys, and the Posts. We had plenty of laughs with this group and enjoyed ringing in the New Year with them.
- I made a trip to Minnesota for work to celebrate their Christmas party. The trip went well, but Deb was left to deal with a sick Sarah which caused her to not be able to go to one of her Christmas gatherings with some ladies.
- We had our annual Christmas dinner with our Purdue friends at the Fredericks house. They did a great job hosting and we had our usual laughs with “Cards against Humanity” after dinner.
- Debbie went to a neighborhood ladies holiday gift exchange and had fun with the wonderful friends we have made!
- We took the girls caroling with other neighbors around to a few houses. They enjoyed singing with the other kids.
