January 2017
This month was a welcome change from the busy holiday
season. Our schedules slowed down a
little bit and it was good to get the girls back in school. I enjoyed my birthday and we are working to
figure out how to help Debbie feel better as her thyroid has been acting
up.
For this entire month (and half of last month), Debbie
has had a very high resting heartbeat.
At first, we just thought she had a virus or was fighting through some
illness. After it didn’t go away, she
went to a few doctors and they realized her thyroid is acting up. She has already had some issues with it
before, so she was already on some medication.
From what I understand, your thyroid can switch on you pretty quickly
and your medication won’t work properly anymore. She has been off her medicine for 30 days and
has a scan scheduled for early February.
The side effects of her heartrate being so high is that she can’t
workout or do anything to actively increase her heartrate. She is also very fatigued at the end of each
day. She is taking a medication to help
keep her heart rate a little lower, but we are hoping for more answers in
February so she can get back to her normal self.
I had a nice birthday weekend in mid-January. We went up with several friends up to Purdue
to celebrate Watkins’ birthday. They
played Penn State and won! We enjoyed
some beers at Harry’s and the Stacked Pickle.
We went to dinner that evening in Carmel with everyone and had a great
time. The girls enjoyed spending the day
with my mom. The next day, we took the girls
to see Disney on Ice and they loved it.
We had some pretty good seats and everyone enjoyed themselves. I had a great time, considering they were
serving beer!
Sarah’s Thing of the Month
Sarah moved up to a new class at pre-school called “Stars”
and she was pretty excited about it. She
is also playing soccer at school with the “big kids” and seems to be holding
her own!
Allison’s Thing of the Month
Allison was asked to volunteer at her school’s open house. She and Debbie went to the classroom and welcomed
parents and talked about kindergarten. I
think Allison enjoyed showing off her school.
A few more items from this
month:
- We have started back with swim lessons and are hoping to keep them going through May until summer officially starts and we can go to the pool.
- We also signed the girls up for YMCA basketball and they both are on the same team. We have gathered some neighbors and friends to play with us. I’m coaching along with 2 other dads and we are hoping for a fun season of basketball.
- I had a trip to Minnesota in the middle of the month. It was the usual trip but I did enjoy working out a few times while I was up there, which I haven’t done before.
- Allison had the day off for Martin Luther King Day. Beth watched Allison and Sarah that day. They had fun going to McDonalds for lunch and visiting the Obenchain family.
- I had a good time catching up with Geddes and having a few beers one night.
- For the 15th year, I’m still playing in the Chatard Alumni basketball league. It is fun playing with the usual team and I’m glad my cousin Chris is playing with us this year. Gives us some young legs when we play the younger guys!
- Debbie volunteered in Allison’s class and enjoyed helping them get ready for the open house.
- Debbie also changed her schedule around to get off work at 2:30 and rush to pick up Sarah and then Allison. This change allows for Allison to not have to go to “after-care” on Tuesday through Friday and should allow for some additional pool time during the summer.
- Our neighbors came over for dinner and a movie one Saturday night. The kids enjoyed a “snowball fight” in the basement and the adults enjoyed being able to relax and actually listen to our conversation.
- My mom had a knee replacement at the end of January. She seems to be doing OK. Her cousin Marie has been tremendously helpful these first few days helping mom out at the hospital and at home.
- Deb took the girls to see the movie Sing along with kids from Allison's kindergarten class.
