April 2018

As I’ve been saying since Sarah was born, April will be always be a busy month since Allison and Sarah’s birthdays are in the month.  Combine it with a spring break trip and some traveling for work, we had a lot of fun in April, but are OK to have it behind us as we look forward to the end of school and summer.

We went to Siesta Key for the 2nd year in a row and really enjoyed it.  This year, we stayed at Siesta Dunes and there were neighbors and friends from church that were staying nearby or at the same place.  We flew down on Saturday morning to Tampa and had a quick drive down to Siesta Key.  After going to the grocery store, we were in our swimsuits by mid-afternoon.  Each day was exactly the same, go out around mid-morning and come back to the condo at dinner time.  We went out to dinner 3 nights, grilled out burgers 1 night and ate at our condo the remaining nights.  The girls enjoyed having their meals served on Frisbees so they were able to play with those on the beach.  We had one rainy afternoon which was appreciated as it allowed for a nap for the girls and a little shade in the middle of the week.  Sarah is a lot like Debbie when it comes to the sun and has to be very careful with sunscreen as she burns very easily, similar to most people with red hair!

The last weekend in April we had several visitors in town to celebrate the girl’s birthdays and do the Komen Race for the Cure.  Wiz, Karen, Ralph, Barbs, Randy and Anna were all in town to celebrate.  The Race for the Cure was chilly with a wind chill in the 30’s.  The girls enjoyed the walk and celebrating Wiz being a 24 year survivor.  Afterwards, we were off to the soccer fields for a cold afternoon outside for 2 soccer games.  Finally, we went home for a birthday celebration for both girls with everyone mentioned above along with Jan, the Dodsons, Pat, Paul and my mom.  The girls enjoyed having everyone around to celebrate their birthdays and of course, the attention they received!

Sarah’s Things of the Month

We celebrated Sarah’s birthday the day before we left for spring break.  We had the Sniadecki’s over for pizza and cake which made her day even more special.  She took doughnuts to her class at school.  She seems to be really enjoying soccer a lot more than last fall by being more active on the field.  Sarah was excited to go to her kindergarten assessment at Christ the King and spent a few minutes with Ms. Bentley.

Allison’s Thing of the Month

We celebrated Allison’s birthday by ordering pizza with the guests we had in town.  She took a cookie cake to her class at school.  Allison had party at a pottery place in Broad Ripple and requested Debbie to make a brownie cake, so she and Anna had to figure that out!  Allison has started a kickball league that takes place on Tuesday evenings through May.  She seems to really like it, but very few kids can even kick the ball past the pitcher!  Just to prove she is my kid, she actually MISSED the ball when trying to kick, which I didn’t think was possible.  Allison had to have 2 of her teeth pulled this month as her adult teeth were coming in.  These were her first 2 teeth she lost and that made the entire experience a lot easier as we were able to leverage the tooth fairy as a reward for being “tough” at the dentist.

A few more items from this month:

  • We celebrated Easter by going to 8AM mass and hosting a brunch afterwards.  The girls enjoyed their Easter egg hunt and having family over to watch them (they do like the attention!).
  • We enjoyed going over to the Bassett’s house on Easter to celebrate a lamb dinner.  It was great to catch up with everyone while mom watched the girls.
  • At the Race for the Cure, Jeremy and I ran the 5K and did it in 25 minutes.  I think both of us were competitive enough to not let the other one get ahead and we both said we wanted to do it in 25 minutes.
  • Debbie’s clinic has partnered with some doctors in Bloomington so she has made a few trips down there to help with that transition.
  • I took a trip to Rhode Island to visit our jewelry plant.  I found my class ring from high school and asked them to clean it up and resize it so I could wear it to work.
  • We enjoyed watching a Pacers playoff game at the Sniadecki’s house.  It is exhausting to watch a full NBA playoff game with kids, as they are way too excited for the entire 2-3 hours.  Each and every basket, all 5 kids would run in and tell us the score.
  • We went to the annual “Brady Awards” which is at the Indiana Rooftop Ballroom and is sponsored by the doctors where Debbie works.  Our good friend, Josh Bleill, won an award and it was great to spend the evening with him, his wife and his parents.
  • I enjoyed getting a chance to go to lunch with Sonja, my friend from my Hurco days.  We enjoyed catching up and seeing how things are going.
  • Deb took the day off and chaperoned a field trip for Allison’s class to the zoo.  She took Sarah along and it sounds like it was fun, exciting and exhausting to keep track of her group.
