May 2018
As a kid, I remember May being the end of the school year
and not really much else going on. As a
parent, I’m starting to see that May is probably the 2nd busiest
month of the year (December is #1). Between
our normal schedules and with soccer, swimming and kickball, we felt a little
overscheduled this past month. We also had
our last month at the same daycare center we dropped Allison off at 7 years
ago.
The Friday of Memorial Day weekend, we had our last day
of school for both girls. Sarah had her
500 race at Learning Time and Deb and I were there along with Grandma. It was sad to say goodbye to all of the
caretakers we have come to know so well in the last 7 years, but it was nice to
not have that weekly charge against our credit card! All joking aside, we enjoyed our time at
Learning Time and the sentimental part for me is that we were there for 7
years. 7 years from now, Allison will be
going to high school. Time sure flies by
fast! Allison had a fun last day of
school and Deb took our girls along with the Sniadecki boys to the school ice
cream social at Broad Ripple Park to celebrate the end of the school year. We celebrated the remainder of the holiday
weekend by going to the pool, having the Anderson’s over for a cookout and
going over to the Sniadecki’s to listen to the race and let the kids play
together.
We are excited to have the same summer nanny that we had
last year, Margaret. She lives across the
street and the girls are disappointed each Saturday or Sunday when she isn’t
coming over and they are “stuck with us.”
She does a great job taking the girls to the pool and tennis lessons,
along with playing around the neighborhood.
It sure is nice for Debbie and I to get up and just go to work and not
have to get the girls fed breakfast or ready for school.
We continued our Mother’s Day tradition of the girls and me
heading out in the morning to get flowers at Lowes for Debbie and my mom. We dropped off the planter for my mom and
then head home and spend a majority of the day outside planting flowers and the
garden. The Vandervaart’s were in town
for Mother’s Day weekend, so we took the girls to a “Princess Ball” which
everyone really enjoyed. The girls were
excited to meet several princesses and Claire and Grace did a good job watching
the girls during the event.
Sarah’s Things of the Month
While
playing on the swing-set over Memorial Day weekend, Sarah took a shot to the
head and has about a half-inch cut on her forehead which will likely leave a
minor scar. It may have needed a
stiches, but it seem ok! Sarah enjoyed soccer and swim lessons ending
in May and starting up tennis at North Central for the summer.
Allison’s Thing of the Month
A tradition at Christ the King is that all 1st
graders spend the night in the gym at the end of the year with the teachers. We dropped off Allison on a Friday night and
they played, watched a movie and slept on the gym floor. 7:30PM is Allison’s normal bedtime, she was
tired the next day but had a great time with her friends & teachers. Allison
also joined the swim team at the K of C, so she will participate in a few meets
in June. Allison enjoyed soccer,
kickball and graduating from swim lessons in May and starting up tennis at North
Central for the summer.
A few more items from this
month:
- I volunteered for Field Day at Allison’s school this year and it was a great time. The kids were excited all day and the teachers did a great job putting on a good time for the kids, like they always do.
- Debbie went out for sushi for Tracy’s birthday. This place is notorious for generous pours of wine, so everyone in attendance had a good time!
- Sarah and Debbie had “muffins with Mommy” at Learning Time to celebrate Mother’s
- I met up with my cousin, Chris, for dinner at Flatwater and then we went to play some pool at OPTs.
- Debbie went out to dinner with Laura Sniadecki at Next Door, which is a new restaurant at 46th and College.
- Debbie and I went out to dinner for our Anniversary (12 years) at Seasons 52. We continued our tradition of watching our wedding DVD with the girls while eating popcorn.
- We had a friend of ours that I coach basketball (Jessie) come over and give us some ideas on a possible renovation of our first floor. All we have is the drawings and still need to the most important thing, quotes!
- We also had my cousin (Julie) and her husband over to get their thoughts on our possible renovation. We enjoyed catching up with them and hoping to get a summer reunion together for my dad’s side of the family.
- Allison has her “bridge” ceremony where she graduated from being a Daisy and became a Brownie.
- We went to Molly’s 1st birthday party and enjoyed celebrating with friends and family. She had a fall at daycare, so her leg is in a cast for a month and she was doing very well with it.
- I went to the school athletic banquet as the team I helped coach this year was runner-up in the city tournament, so they were recognized. Afterwards, many coaches went to Blind Owl brewery for some beers.
