January 2019
Our January started off with the end of Christmas break, which I know I say this every year, but having both kids stuck in the house for 2 weeks really has Debbie and I ready for them to go back to school. They get along pretty well, but that can change based on one argument.
This month was a
big milestone as it was my 40th birthday over MLK weekend. Debbie and I both took off Friday and Monday
of that weekend to enjoy a 4 day weekend.
The weekend started off with the girls going to a movie night at school
and we enjoyed a dinner out with the O’Rourke’s to plan our ski trip to Davis,
WV over President’s Day weekend. On
Saturday, we went to a trivia night as a fundraiser for the school. There were balloons to celebrate my birthday
along with having 400+ people sing “Happy Birthday” was pretty cool. With nothing planned on Sunday or Monday, we
spent most of the time doing stuff around the house along with doing some
puzzles with the kids and playing some board games.
This month had a few instances where we needed to help
out my mom. She had some issues with her
right knee when visiting my sister in Ohio and was unable to drive home. Lawton and I were able to meet Pete and a
friend of his in Columbus to pick her up and drive her car back to Indy. Debbie was able to go to the doctor
appointments to help understand what may have been causing the issues. She had knee surgery to hopefully resolve
these issues in late January and is already going to physical therapy. Fortunately, Frank and Jan sold their house
and before they hit the road, they are staying with Mom so things have worked
out well.
Sarah’s Things of the Month
Sarah
is still playing basketball at the YMCA.
We sent an email to her entire class to see if we could field a team
that was just her classmates. We were
lucky enough to have 9 other girls sign up to play. I’m coaching the team and have plenty of
parents offering to help! Sarah also enjoyed a kindergarten tradition
which was called “Letter People Day” and she choose to go as the letter D and
repurposed an old Halloween costume and be a donut!
Allison’s Thing of the Month
Allison went to a Butler basketball game with her friend
Lilah and her parents early in January.
She loved it and was happy to see a win.
Allison is playing basketball at Castleton Christian Church this season and
is loving it (I’m an assistant coach).
Allison came down with the flu over MLK weekend and it kept her out of
school for an entire week. We knew
something was going around the school and was hoping to avoid it hitting our
house, but no luck. Her flu turned into
pneumonia and we were lucky that none of the rest of us got sick…this
time. She recovered in enough time to
sing in the choir at church on the last Sunday in January.
A few more items from this
month:
- On a snowy Saturday, I went by Frank and Jan’s house to help them move some items to a storage unit.
- Deb and I went to a work party for Herff Jones. We have known my boss for 13 years, so Debbie and his wife have known each other just as long. Work parties always are better when the spouse who doesn’t know anyone has someone to talk with!
- Watkins, Anderson and I went to the Purdue vs. Michigan State game on the last Sunday in January. It was a big upset where Purdue beat #6 MSU. Schafer was also there and I sat with him.
- Debbie volunteered at the open house at the school. She was a tour guide and enjoyed helping out.
