March 2019

March 2019

March had us balancing basketball, soccer and swimming for the girls along with getting ready for our road trip to Florida for spring break.  We still had plenty of fun things going on, had a birthday party for Sarah and renovated our guest bathroom.

Since we have moved into our house in 2012, we have usually completed projects as often as we can afford to.  This month, we moved forward with renovating the guest bathroom upstairs.  We had the same contractor that did our ceiling in the basement do this project and he did a great job.  Debbie picked everything out, and if my opinion was asked, it was more out of courtesy.  We sent the girls over to my mom’s for an overnight and Deb and I did the most fun thing you can do when the kid aren’t around…paint the bathroom.  After a dinner out, we came home and primed the entire bathroom and painted the ceiling when we woke up the next morning.

Lots of sports going on in March, so let’s start with basketball.  Allison’s league at Castleton Christian Church ended and they did end up winning one game.  She really liked the league and seemed to get a lot better over the course of the year.  Sarah’s league at the YMCA ended and the girls really improved from the first practice and seemed to really enjoy it.  We signed up Allison for a league with several girls from her class at Park Tudor.  The schedule has been tough to maneuver with this league due to spring break, but the girls seem to be having fun. The girls are also playing soccer again this spring.  Allison is being coached by a family friend (Mo) and she really likes playing for her.  Sarah also likes her soccer coach a little bit, because Deb signed up coach again!  Sarah’s team includes many kids from church and school.  Sarah is also taking swimming lessons and those will end in May and she will take a shot at the swim team at the Knights of Columbus this summer with Allison.

Sarah’s Things of the Month

Since we were going to be on Spring Break during Sarah’s actual birthday, we had a birthday party for her at The Creative Corner, which is an art and crafts studio.  She enjoyed having almost all of the girls in her class show up and enjoy some art, pizza and cupcakes.

Allison’s Thing of the Month

Allison participated in the annual school talent show, where 2 of her friends did a comedy skit called “A Run to Target.”  It ended up being more cute than funny, but we were proud of her having the courage to go on stage in front of the entire school and many parents.

A few more items from this month:

  • I took the girls to a women’s Butler basketball game with several other parents and kids from school.  It has become an annual tradition with some other dads from church to take our kids to one of these games.
  • We went to the kindergarten class party which was held at the gym at school.  It was themed about basketball and “March Madness” but somehow flippy cup was brought into the equation!
  • Every other year, there is a “Daddy Daughter Dance” at the gym at school.  This year, I was blessed with 2 dates.  Allison treated me like most girls did at the high school dances I went to back in the 90s and wanted nothing to do with me, but Sarah was excited to dance with me and wasn’t “too cool” to be dance with me.
  • I was a last minute sub on a bowling team with Brandon and Tom.  It was fun to have a few beers and hang out with those guys.
  • I went to the Pacers vs. Knicks game with some guys from work.  It was fun to talk with the guys outside of the work environment and enjoy some basketball.
  • I met up with some people I worked with at Hurco for a few beers one evening.  Always good to catch up!
  • We went over the Campbells for dinner and a movie one Friday evening.  We see them a lot each summer at the pool, so it was fun to get during the colder months.
  • We went over the Anderson’s house to talk with them and the Watkins about Spring Break and what each family was thinking about doing for food and fun while in Florida in April.
  • Laura and her kids were at mom’s condo for part of their Spring Break, which allowed for us to celebrate Claire’s birthday and let the kids play together.
  • I enjoyed helping out at the Tiger Trot which is a school tradition to kick off Spring Break.  Similar to the Daddy Daughter Dance, Allison wanted very little to do with me so I walked with Sarah and her friends.
