January 2020

January 2020

It feels like this is becoming a trend where I don’t get a chance to write the blog until we are almost done with the following month, but such is life and January included a lot of basketball and a work trip for me at Marco Island that Debbie was able to come along.

For the 100-year anniversary of Herff Jones, it was decided to have a conference at Marco Island in Florida.  Debbie and I flew out on Wednesday morning and were having lunch on the beach by noon.  We enjoyed a great afternoon on the beach and we walked to dinner at a fantastic restaurant that was nearby.  On Thursday, we had a nice morning and afternoon together and then I was off to the conference which started at 4PM.  Debbie was off to explore a few restaurants on her own and had a nice dinner and then she stopped by and had a drink with some of my coworkers and I.  Friday was busy with the conference starting in the morning and meetings until the beach party that evening.  Debbie enjoyed a day in the sun on the beach and came along to the beach party that evening.  It was an awesome evening of volleyball, food, drink and music.  Saturday involved more meetings for me and more fun for Debbie.  I went to our Hall of Fame dinner that evening and dressed up like the 1920’s.  The hat I wore made me look more Amish than Roaring 20’s, so one of my coworkers started calling me Randy Quaid from Kingpin!  Saturday night officially ended the conference, so Deb and I enjoyed a full day Sunday on our own with some beach time and watching the NFL playoffs at one of the hotel outdoor bars as we waited for our 10PM flight.  We got home pretty late and enjoyed a casual Monday with the girls.  Anna and Randy did a great job keeping the girls on their normal schedules along with their activities on the weekend.

At the end of the month, both girls participated in the talent show at school.  It seems like Deb and I are more nervous than they are to get on stage in front of 300 kids from the school and try to perform some sort of talent.  Allison was up first this year and did a funny skit with Ruth & Lilah that was about an online viral video and the number of followers they have.  Then, Sarah got up there and told some jokes about the teachers at the school and is already planning on what she wants to do next year because she enjoyed it so much.

Several dads from school got together and took our daughters to a Daddy Daughter night sponsored by the women’s basketball team at Butler. We probably had about 40 dads and daughters that attended and the girls had a great time.  They had dinner along with several crafts they could do and a balloon artist making things for the girls.  The girls had a lot of fun and they also were invited onto the court for the national anthem and starting lineups.

Sarah’s Things of the Month

Sarah has enjoyed her first season playing basketball at Castleton Christian Church.  She is playing on the “Hoosiers” and since I’m an assistant coach, we have both been forced to wear red shirts during the season!  We have a goal of getting one foul per game as we work on getting more aggressive on the court and playing defense.  She has enjoyed having Jorgie on her team this year.

Allison’s Thing of the Month

Allison is having fun in her second season playing basketball at Castleton Christian Church.  We don’t have a problem with Allison playing aggressive as she wants to guard the boys and loves the challenge.  She likes the league and enjoys being on a team with her friends from school (Olive, Ruby & Lilah).
