January 2013

January was a little quieter than the previous several months. We are still very busy and getting ready for the upcoming addition to our family, but we were able to spend some more evenings at home and only had one big weekend that had Deb and I in different cities.

The 4th weekend of the month, Deb traveled with Allison to WV to host a wedding shower for Julie. Deb and Allison travelled on Thursday and spent 3 nights in Charleston. She hosted this shower with one of Julie’s friends and the party went great. Deb found a way to decorate wine glasses and had one ready for everyone at the party. Allison always enjoys going to Charleston and it sounds like she travelled really well. It sounds like everyone had some time with Allison, as Deb and Anna went shopping one day and Randy had to change a dirty diaper, something he says he hasn’t done in a long time!

While they were in WV, I spend the Thursday evening and Friday morning painting 4 rooms upstairs with my mom and sister. Many thanks to them for helping out so we could knock those off our “pre-baby” project list! We wanted to paint the nursery, but also wanted to paint several other rooms as we know it won’t be that easy in a couple of months. We got done around noon on Friday and then I was off to Louisville to catch up with Julie’s fiancĂ© and his friends for the bachelor party. We went on a bourbon tour on Saturday and we went to my favorite distillery, Makers Mark. I was able to catch breakfast with my Uncle Don on the way out of town.

Allison continues to surprise us each day with new things and sayings. One of her newest things is that she confuses “you” and “me.” If you ask her to do something, and she wants “you” to do it…she will just point at you and say “me, me, me.” It took us awhile to figure what she was saying, but as soon as you recognized she was talking about “you,” she was content and on to the next thing. She was sick early in the month and Aunt Beth stopped by to check her out, give us some meds and she was back to health in no time. Pat and Paul helped out again as she got sick early in the week, so we needed some help to make it to the weekend. We really appreciate their flexibility to help us out.

Deb has been feeling OK, but has started feeling the effects of the 3rd trimester. The doctor says everything is going great. She has some numbness in her legs and isn’t sleeping every night real well. She has started to eat smaller, more frequent meals and is working out less because it causes some pain. It is hard to remember how she felt last time because there wasn’t a toddler running around!

A few more items from this month:
• We celebrated my birthday by having family over on for some cake and ice cream. Deb made an apple-cinnamon cake and it was pretty good! She also made meat-loaf (one of my favorites) that weekend!
• I started my 12th year playing in the Chatard Alumni League….always a fun time, but we are always 4-4, win one playoff game and then lose. Great to see some of the guys I just don’t see on a regular basis.
• We went to a “rescheduled” Christmas dinner at the Wahmans the first Saturday in January. It was great to see everyone and it was one of the first family events we didn’t chase Allison around or she wasn’t attached to us.
• We went out to dinner with Allison for the first time in a long time to Some Guys Pizza. It was great as she colored and ate really well. I enjoyed a beer and we loved how much fun we had.
• We both had work holiday parties back to back nights in January, babysitters are hard to come by sometimes, so we both went solo to our own parties.
• We hosted the Watkins and Andersons over for the WVU vs. Purdue basketball game. We enjoyed watching Allison interact with their daughters really well along with a Purdue victory.
