May 2014

May 2014

May always seems to be a kickoff to the summer, where you get to be outside more, start grilling and you have plans just about every weekend!  Our girls are changing more and more each month, with Sarah and Allison starting to interact and play together.  Of course they have their disputes, where Allison will be tickling Sarah and she ends up pushing her down or Sarah will want everything and anything Allison has, so sharing has been a big topic of conversation.

The first weekend in May, we went to WV for a baby shower for Julie and Kyle that was thrown by Deb and her mom.  It went great and the weather was fantastic.  Julie and Kyle seem to be as ready as they can be, with all the presents they received along with having their nursery pretty much completed.  We enjoyed some drinks on the back deck all weekend long and had fun catching up.  Randy and Anna have kept many of Deb and Julie’s toys from their childhood, so that really kept Allison busy!

Each year for Mother’s Day, I usually take the girls to Lowe’s to buy some flowers.  This gives Deb a break to get a nice work-out in and I don’t mind taking a small shopping trip with the girls.  It was quite entertaining watching Allison pick out flowers for Deb.  Allison also must have a hard time saying the letter “L” and uses an “H” instead, so she calls the store “Howe’s.”  So, it sounds like this…”Daddy, do you want to go to Howe’s?”  We also purchased a hanging basket for Grandma and delivered it to her.

Memorial Day weekend started off great, because Deb and I took the Friday off!  After running some errands in the morning, we met up at daycare for their “mini-500” race.  It was the first time Allison was on a big wheel and she seemed to really like it.  I think she really enjoyed it because she got to wear her Mickey helmet, Mom and Dad were there, along with Grandma and Aunt Beth.  We took the girls home after that and started off our weekend.  We enjoyed the weekend and Allison and I listened to the race in a small inflatable pool!  My neighbor drove his Porshe into his garage and I told him that I thought his car helped improve the neighborhood, but our pool really solidified it!

Sarah’s Things of the Month
She has had a blocked tear duct since birth.  We were told she could out-grow it and hoped she would.  Unfortunately, she hasn’t and we tried a small procedure in May to fix it.  That didn’t do the job so we are scheduled for an eye surgery in late June.  Also, she is getting orthotics for her feet as her balance doesn’t seem to be where it needs to be.  Hopefully that is a short-term issue and once she starts walking, we could start to wean her off of those.

Allison’s Things of the Month
Allison has moved into a big girl twin bed.  She seems to like it and even though she is still getting up 1-2 times a night, she usually goes back to bed without any issues.  Her new bed has Minnie Mouse sheets and she has only fallen out a few times, usually when she is trying to climb in or out of the bed.  We had our parent / teacher conference at her daycare and she seems to be doing very well.

A few more items from this month:
  • The Vandervaarts visited on Mother’s Day weekend and we had an opportunity to go on a boat ride and hang out a few times over the weekend.  Allison really loves to tag-a-long with all her cousins and soon enough, Sarah will be doing the same!
  • We had family pictures taken on Mother’s Day weekend.  They turned out great and the girls did well (Sarah Souders Photgraphy!)!
  • We went to Tracy Bassett’s birthday party at the Wellington bar.  It was great to see so many faces we haven’t seen in a while.
  • Deb went to lunch with Amy Gellert.
  • Deb went to a girl’s night at Scotty’s with Purdue friends.
  • Deb went to a girl’s night at Tracy’s house which had a Greek theme.
  • We went out for our anniversary to Mitchell’s Fish Market.
  • I went mountain biking with Jeremy & Foulke and then went to lunch at Scotty’s.
  • We went to the zoo with the Anderson’s on Memorial Day.  Emma and Allison had a great time running around and we were able to go an hour early because we all had membership passes.
