March 2018
I feel like each month I start the memoirs by saying how
busy we are, so this month I’ll start off with a quick story. I’m taking Sarah to school and I decided to
not wear my coat. She says, “Daddy, why
did you forget your coat?” I said, “You
know what Sarah, Daddy is boycotting the weather and didn’t want to wear a
coat.” Sarah logically responds, “Your
right Daddy…I’m going to girlcott it.”
That was awesome and had me laughing that morning.
At the beginning of the month, we completed the basement
ceiling project by getting everything painted and the carpets cleaned. We moved everything back into the basement
and it looks really nice. It doesn’t
really feel like a basement as much as it does another living space. We may have caught the house project fever as
we invited over a friend from church who I coached basketball with to help us with
our remodeling of the main floor of our house.
We find that our dining room and office are under-utilized and want to
have a creative mind give us some ideas.
We are also planning on having my cousin come over and help give us some
advice. We are also trying to figure out
the right time of year to do this project and we think it may be this fall when
the girls are back in school but it is warm enough to spend some time outside
if half or our house is under construction.
We also decided to get a new garage door which should be installed in early-April.
It has been a while since we gave an update on how work
is going for Debbie and me. Debbie continues
to manage the north-side clinic for MSMC and seems to be enjoying it. She is busy many evenings planning out the
next day and doing her reporting for her clinic. My role at Herff Jones may be changing soon
from being in charge of the finance group for the College team to having a
finance role supporting sales and marketing.
Things are still fluid and being decided, but that seems like the likely
scenario for me going forward. I also
find myself emailing most evenings along with making sure things are staying at
track. I made a trip this month to our
cap and gown factories in Illinois and am heading to our jewelry factory in
Rhode Island in April.
Sarah’s Things of the Month
Sarah
completed her basketball at the YMCA and received her trophy, which was the
best part of the entire season for everyone on the team. She also went to a birthday party at Chuck E
Cheese for one of her classmates. She
has started her soccer season and is once again on a team with some kids who
will be in her kindergarten class next year.
Allison’s Thing of the Month
Allison completed her basketball at the YMCA and
immediately went into a basketball clinic for 2nd thru 7th
graders. She held her own and was likely
the only 1st grader in the clinic.
She was a little nervous, but got more comfortable after she found one
of the older girls from school at the clinic.
Allison had her 6 month eye appointment and got some new glasses which
are taking some getting used to. Allison
also had a reading at mass this month and she did a fantastic job in front of
the entire school.
A few more items from this
month:
- I went to a few happy hours this month. One was for a friend of mine at work who was leaving to go into business for himself. The other one was to watch March Madness on a Friday afternoon with co-workers.
- I had a few lunches this month with friends and family. I met up with Steve and Louie from my Hurco days. I enjoyed meeting up with Shawn Williams after we hadn’t seen each other in several years. And not to be forgotten was my monthly lunches with Mom and Beth.
- Mom, Beth and Molly came over for dinner with us on the anniversary of Dad’s passing. It was nice to be around family and share some laughs.
- Debbie and I went over to a Euchre tournament party hosted by some friends from church. It was a neat idea where you played 12 “mini games.” Each time you sat down, you only played 4 hands and you kept track of your points each time and added up the total to see who wins at the end. It was a good way to spend time with everyone at the party.
- Debbie enjoyed a girl’s night at a brewery in Carmel and eating Jamaican food.
- The girls spent the night at Grandma’s house. Deb and I went out at a new restaurant called Blue Sushi.
- We went over to the Crawford’s house for pizza after going to mass. The kids enjoyed playing together while Sara, Debbie and I enjoyed dinner and talked about the kids being in kindergarten together next year.
- The girls enjoyed going to birthday parties for our neighbors, Lucas and George.
- Debbie and I went to a fundraiser at Top Golf for Make a Wish which was organized by a friend from church.
- I went over to the Wahman’s house to celebrate Chris’s birthday this month. It was good to see their family together along with some of their friends.
- We went to an Easter egg hunt at Chatard on Holy Saturday. We had fun seeing all kinds of friends from school and they did a great job putting on a fun event for the kids.
