December 2019
The month of December is usually centered around Christmas, so we might as well start with our Christmas celebration and everything that happened during that time. As it was our normal year to celebrate Christmas with the Cyphers, Anna and Randy came to town on the 23rd to get settled in for the week. On the 24th, we enjoyed a day around the house and preparing food for our guests who were coming over after mass. The girls did a good job singing at church with their classmates. Afterwards, Frank, Jan, Mark, Chris, Nadia and Beth all came over to enjoy some food and drinks with our family along with Randy and Anna. The next morning, the girls were up early and excited to see if Santa had shown up…which he did! The girls were very excited to see their gifts from Santa, which included basketball goals for their closet doors, 2 swings to hang off of trees in our backyard, Harry Potter books for Allison and a backpack for Sarah. Since the weather was so warm outside, we went outside to hang the swings and the girls were able to play with those immediately. We started a fire and sat outside having some beers enjoying an unusually warm Christmas day.
On the 26th, we went bowling and out to lunch with the Sniadecki’s. The kids had so much fun that they ended up playing outside after we got home since it was 60 degrees outside. On Friday the 27th, Deb and I both went to work and the girls went out to lunch with Randy and Anna at Café Patachou. That evening, Laura’s family and Mom arrived at Beth’s to celebrate the holiday over the weekend. I went over to say hi and hangout for a few hours. The next morning, we all went back over to open presents and spend some hours with each other. After lunch, several of us went to go see a movie so that Erin & Molly could nap. After the movie, we played some basketball and time with Mark, Frank, Jan, Chris, Chelsea & Henry. We enjoyed dinner that evening and watched some of the college football playoffs while others played some euchre.
On the 29th, Julie’s family arrived for a short visit. I had to work on the 30th so everyone went to the Children’s Museum during the day before it got too busy. We opened presents, enjoyed plenty of food & drink, watching some football along with checking out old videos and photos on the TV. We all stayed up until midnight on NYE and some of us decided to stay up even later, which was unnecessary and we felt that the next day. The Shafers and Cyphers left mid-morning on the 1st and we enjoyed a quiet day around the house. The girls had sitters on the 2nd and 3rdsince Deb and I both had to work.
Sarah’s Things of the Month
Sarah spent about half of December wearing a boot on her ankle since she injured it over Thanksgiving. She participated in a few drills as she started the Castleton Christian Church basketball league, but mostly watched. She went to a dragon-themed birthday party for one of her classmates and had a tarantula put on her head!
Allison’s Thing of the Month
Allison and her classmates completed an undefeated basketball season as part of a pre-CYO league at Cathedral and enjoyed an end-of-season pizza party with her team. Allison is also participating int the Castleton Christian Church basketball league and participated in the clinics and skills assessment.
A few more items from this month:
- We got our tree and also saw Santa at Sullivan’s hardware. We went with the Sniadeckis to see Santa and then went out to eat at Blind Owl. Everyone went back to our house after dinner to hang out a little longer.
- The girls had their Christmas program in early December. Grandma, Frank and Jan along with the Cyphers were able to come and attend the celebration.
- Deb and I went to the annual Bassett Christmas party. It was good to see several people we don’t get to see often enough and enjoy the food that is always great.
- We went over to the Campbell’s house for a surprise to visit with Santa. The Morans were also there and it was fun to spend some extra time with Santa and let him read a few books and tell some stories.
- We took the girls downtown to check out the Christmas lights and have dinner at The Ram. We then went to the girls first Pacers game and they beat the Kings.
- Our state fairgrounds had a new light display and we went once during the month. It was pretty awesome, so Deb, Julie and Anna took the girls back when the Shafer’s were visiting.
- Jeremy and I enjoyed watching some of the Butler vs. Purdue game and Daredevil brewery.
- Deb went to a girls Christmas party that was at the Post’s house.
