February 2021

As I looked back on the calendar for February it is definitely starting to feel like things are getting back to “normal” as our schedule has stayed busy with basketball and volleyball. We also took some friends from church on a trip to Davis for President’s Day weekend to enjoy some skiing in awesome snow conditions.

For the last 3 years, we have had plans of going with the O’Rourke’s to Davis to go skiing and the last 2 years the weather hasn’t cooperated so we cancelled at the last minute and went to Michigan and had a great time.  This year the weather has been awesome in Canaan Valley and the renovations to Timberline had us excited to show our friends what WV had to offer.  After getting the kids at noon on Thursday we started the 7-hour drive and arrived around 8PM.  After we got the kids settled and the adults had a few drinks, we all went to bed early since we had to rent skis and we knew that Friday would be the slowest day of the weekend.  With Deb being the best skier out there, she was frequently responsible for the little ones who were tree skiing and laughing when they fell.  By the second day, I’d say that we were all able to ski together for the most part and when the older 2 wanted to go down a harder run, I usually volunteered as it was pretty easy and the only things they would need help with was directions and putting a ski back on if they happened to fall.  Those kids never seemed to get tired and as soon as they got home, they were outside playing in the snow.  We enjoyed some take-out Siranni’s pizza and B.C and I were able to get away for a few hours to enjoy some beers at Stumptown Ales.  While we were there, we started to get texts back from people in Indy telling us about the heavy snow storm coming back at home. Due to this, we got up early on Monday and drove home about as fast as we possibly could.  We got about 30 miles from Indy before the weather got dicey, but we made it home and are already talking about next year’s trip.

That weather really threw a wrench in Debbie’s plans as I had the auditors in town and being my first year with them, I really needed to get back to work after being out of the office for 2 days.  She had to deal with 1 day of e-Learning and a 2-hour delay.  She was able to figure it out, but I hope to be more helpful the more comfortable and

knowledgeable I get at work.

Sarah has gotten some new interests that we have tried to support.  One, she has started a “salon” in her room where she will comb your hair or massage your legs for $.50.  Allison didn’t like missing out on the fun so she talked Sarah into changing the name to “Sister’s Salon” and they use the money to pay for concession stand treats at games.  So, instead of us giving them money for concession stands, we pay them at the salon and then they buy their own candy at the game…which still feels like we are paying for the concession stand treats.

Sarah’s Things of the Month

Sarah has found Deb’s cookbook for kids that she had as a kid and is really getting into it.  She will pick out recipes and want to try to help cook dinner or make a special desert.  Her basketball team ended their season this month and enjoyed a pizza party in our driveway on an exceptionally warm day in late February.

Allison’s Thing of the Month

Allison’s volleyball team has been a lot more fun to watch than I anticipated.  There is a lot more volleying than I expected and with rally scoring, the games don’t last very long at all.  Her basketball team has continued to play well and only lost one game so far with the tournament the first weekend in March.  They are in the “gold” tournament which appears to be the 4 best teams.

A few more items from this month:

  • Before the ski trip, I was able to get on a Zoom call with Jeremy and Brad to catch up and how everyone was doing.  We hadn’t talked since Christmas, so it was fun to catch up and see what the guys were up to.
  • We went over to Jackie & Adam’s for some pizza and talk about their wedding plans and how the girls will be involved as the flower girls.  They were excited to talk about their dresses, hair and all kinds of stuff in regards to the wedding in April 2022.
  • I went over to Beth’s house and we hung out in her living room.  With my new job, we hadn’t got a chance to hang out as much as we had during the 2nd half of 2020.
  • Several of the families from CKS got take-out fish from different area restaurants and we all met at the K of C to hold and impromptu fish fry since most of those are cancelled this year.
  • We went over to the Dodson’s house to celebrate Erin’s 2nd birthday.  Molly & Erin are always pretty excited to hang out with Allison & Sarah and I’d say they do a good job playing together given their age difference.   https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1UKXfxr2WQHxyp77xwoX3Fd9cENee4RzOhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1w7zOSygBFIO34L2xHOVuMfqdzfcIS8tThttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1PihfTBiGn_dIjZSMtuLB4sPgw0mDN5F4https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=12MJD0hHCuWc2gjnoikHJ7RwUo0rS0aLlhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1WIgslRxdzMR9suoaY9WIaj4j98YglKyohttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1_rU0Z9-NeLYYsSXZpKsYSOakgLbMGbByhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1l4jh3FhZvI7KAfXuZKUYPt7gUn1TYv0ghttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1z59-Mfrt9YlqN2As-mDl8inJNt028c3Whttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1gWkmHw7nop_HTxLKtd9xYlsM8nawk1xjhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1X9bxKzTGs8FbL-ZoQJ3BVNtIrBI-Cn-Y
