February 2011

We are two months away from becoming parents, and that can create almost too many adjectives to capture in a blog. Excitement is the easiest one that comes to mind, but anxiety creeps in every once in awhile! Deb has been doing great and her doctor tells her that everything is going great. She has started to not sleep as well and not be as comfortable, but that is to be expected as she has just completed 31 weeks, or that is what we have been told! During February, we completed our child-birth class at the hospital and we learned about the different phases of labor and tried to understand what will be going on when we are heading to the hospital. The nursery is in good shape, and as Deb has 2 more baby showers scheduled, we will continue to fill out the baby’s room! On Feb. 26th, Deb was thrown a shower at my parent’s house. Mom, Beth and Laura did a great job and we received a generous amount of gifts off our registry. There were several family members from the Carroll side in attendance. We spent the remainder of the day opening up the presents and putting things away in the nursery. During the shower, Pete, Mark, Frank, Chris, Dad and I went to the NCAA Hall of Champions, which is an interactive museum for the NCAA. We enjoyed some trivia, some virtual soccer/football/basketball, and shooting some hoops in an old-fashioned gym. For those of you that have seen the movie Hoosiers, the half-court gym was very much built to replicate that environment. It has been a few months since we have updated the blog regarding Dad’s health. His health has been deteriorating since the holidays where he needs to have someone around most of the time. He is usually in good spirits, where he is cracking jokes and telling stories. His speech can make him a little difficult to understand, especially with a crowd. He is keeping a good attitude and we continue to spend quality time with him as often as we can. No one knows what the future holds, so we continue to be appreciative of the time we all have together.

A few more items from this month:
• Jeremy, Lawton and I went to a “tweet-up” event that was held by Peter King (writer for Sports Illustrated) at Scotty’s. He was in town for the NFL combine, and it was entertaining to listen to him talk about some insider information about the NFL.
• Deb had a few nights out this month. One was with her usual “book-club” girls, but I don’t think they read books anymore! Another was with Amy and Angie, where the enjoyed some quality time at Some Guys Pizza (their usual hang-out).
• Our friend Tracy is a great cook. She has started a “Cooking Night” for her friends to show them some tricks and tips for some quick meals. She has been doing this for a few months and Deb enjoys coming home with new recipes.
• We had our typical Valentines Day dinner, where we order a heart-shaped pizza from Papa Murphy’s! I’ve got to love a girl that can be happy on Valentine’s Day with a $10 meal!
• I went to 2 Pacers game this month, one was in the suite of our auditors at work and the other was to watch the Miami Heat with some co-workers.
