August 2018
We are back to school and Sarah had her first day at
Christ the King! We had a few fun trips
to close out the summer along with having Randy and Anna stay with us while
Randy had a knee replacement surgery.
Seems like the month has had a lot of activities, so let’s look back to the
beginning of the month.
We made our 4th trip to Lake Geneva to have a weekend
with the Ragos. A lot has changed over
the last 4 years and the trip is a lot more relaxing now as the kids all sleep
in the same room and Sarah doesn’t appear to be as frightened by dogs as she
has in the past. We spent the first
morning going tubing on the lake. The kids
enjoyed the rides and the parents enjoyed having a driver for the boat. I doubt Keith or Joe would have been able to
figure it out! On one of the evenings,
we got a babysitter and the adults went out to dinner at Pier 290. Other than that, we had a great time swimming
and hanging out and the kids seemed to get along pretty well. We look forward to this trip every year, and
not just to see our friends, but to also load up on Debbie’s annual supply of
New Glarus Spotted Cow beer! You know
you are being judged when you walk out of Walmart at 8AM with 8 cases!
Both girls are now at Christ the King and Sarah is loving
it. I guess whatever nerves we through
we would have disappeared immediately because she is acting like she owns the place. She knows the rules, the teachers and other
students. She has been getting a lot of
praise from her teacher which we find a little surprising because she still has
her “Sarah moments” at home. Allison
could be categorized as almost a “nerd” she was so excited to go back to
school. While the fall activities along
with school have her wiped out most days, she seems to be loving it and happy
to be back to school and enjoying her class.
The weekend after school started, we were off to Michigan
to celebrate Beachmo in St. Joseph. We had
great weather and a fantastic weekend.
We arrived Friday evening and enjoyed swimming and hanging out with
everyone in the conference room.
Saturday was a fun day at the beach where the water was very calm and the
kids had fun in the lake and sand along with climbing the dune. We had to leave Sunday at noon to make it
back for a back to school dinner, but enjoyed some bigger waves at the beach in
the morning. The girls had another amazing summer with their summer nanny, Margaret Nickerson. They did everything from swimming to tennis lessons to bowling to coloring and jumping on the trampoline. You name it, these kids did it. A big thanks to Margaret for making their summer so awesome!
Sarah’s Things of the Month
Sarah
has a new soccer coach this fall…Debbie!
Debbie decided to give it a shot and she is doing pretty well with her
practices on Wednesday evenings. Sarah
is also enjoying the kindergarten basketball clinic at school.
Allison’s Thing of the Month
Allison is doing well with her many activities this fall. She is enjoying cross country along with
playing soccer. She wanted to sign up
for the youth choir and she is participating in the kindergarten thru 3rd
grade basketball clinic that I am helping organize at school. Allison
had a great time at one of her classmate’s birthday parties where they played
many homemade games which had all the girls in her class laughing for
hours.
A few more items from this
month:
- Randy came for a knee replacement surgery and was here for about 10 days. From the sounds of it, he is doing very well and is well ahead of where he needs to be.
- Debbie and Laura Sniadecki organized an ice cream social for the kindergarten classes. It was a well-attended event that included Father Todd and assistant principal and both teachers!
- Debbie is also signed up to organize Grandparents Day which is held at school for the kindergarten, 4th grade and 8th grade kids and their grandparents.
- We went to a cookout at the Steffey’s and it was great to see everyone and have fun catching up. The kids had enjoyed playing in their basement while we had a chance to have some smoked meats (ribs, brisket, etc.).
