September 2018

September 2018
Maybe the kids are just getting more involved in more activities, but this has been one extremely busy month where I’m sometimes wishing for the days of coming home after work and only having to deal with dinner at bath-time.  Either way, time doesn’t stop so we will keep up with everything the best we can!

The summer officially “ends” when the pool closes, which is Labor Day weekend.  We enjoyed the pool a few times that weekend and had relatively quiet holiday weekend.  We went to Allison’s first cross country meet, where she recorded a time of 18 minutes for a 3K.  Over the weekend, I got a chance to catch up with my favorite basketball coach, Ken Manuel.  He was my coach in 6th grade for a basketball team at Tab.  He really got the most out of me and helped me become a better player, which is what makes him a fantastic person!

As I mentioned previously, Debbie was helping out with hosting Grandparents Day at the school.  This is an event for the grandparents of the kindergarten, 4th grade and 8th grade.  Randy, Anna and my mom were able to make it and Sarah was very excited to have them all at school with her for the day.  Over the weekend, we participated in a run/walk event called the “Metal Walk” which was sponsored by Debbie’s clinic.  It was to celebrate knee and hip replacements along with anyone that has had “metal” help them be more healthy and mobile.  Randy used this visit as an opportunity to schedule his 1 month follow-up appointment and he is doing very well.

Debbie traveled to a conference in late September which left me in-charge for 3 days.  I was pretty surprised how it felt much longer by the time she got home with how much we had going on, but we survived and the girls behaved pretty well.  We had cross country practice and a meet, along with 2 soccer games.  I had to coach Sarah’s team which was probably hilarious as I know little to nothing about soccer and was trying to coach kids that were 6 and under.

Sarah’s Things of the Month

I had the opportunity to volunteer in Sarah’s class this month.  We did some finger-painting and somehow I was able to keep most of it off my clothes!  We can’t tell if Sarah is enjoying soccer, but Debbie is doing her best at coaching and we know the kids are enjoying the snacks!

Allison’s Thing of the Month

Allison posted an improved 3K time throughout the meets and her personal record for the season was 16:44.  She has enjoyed the soccer season this year and is playing very hard for her coach.  Our friend Mo has been her coach for the last several seasons and has done a great job.   As part of being in the children’s choir, Allison sang at mass this month.  Allison had an eye appointment this month and continues to do well considering she had cataracts removed 4 years ago.  Finally, we had a meeting to help prepare Allison for her first reconciliation in December.

A few more items from this month:

  • Debbie went out to dinner with Tracy and enjoyed some sushi at their usual spot in Broad Ripple.
  • The girls had school pictures this month and they look great!
  • A few parents and I were leading a basketball clinic for the kindergarten through 3rd graders and it was very successful with about 50 kids participating.
  • I enjoyed meeting up for lunch with Sonja who is one of my top mentors at work and in life.  We shared some laughs and updating each other on how things were going at work and at home.
  • We participated at the movie night at our school.  We dropped off the kids at 6 and needed to pick them up at 8:30, so we went to dinner with another set of parents (Randolphs) at Twenty Tap.
  • As part of a new tradition, our church had an outdoor parish-wide mass at Broad Ripple Park.  About 600 parishioners were in attendance and it was followed up by a picnic.
  • We were excited to make it to Lobsterfest at the Bassett’s house this year.  We are unable to make it last year, but it was great to see everyone and of course, eat some lobster!
