October 2018
October had a lot of small things going on (other than going to Disney for fall break).  That trip was such a big deal that it got a separate blog post!  Here is what else happened in October…

Debbie completed her soccer coaching career by making sure everyone on her team scored a goal this season…including Sarah!  They both were so excited that they had a huge mid-field hug and celebration.  I’m not sure Deb would like to coach again, but I do know the kids had a good time and were always smiling and running around, which is all you can expect from 5 year-olds.  Allison enjoyed playing for our friend Mo Obenchain, who is a family friend of ours and is a great soccer coach.

We had a few events that we enjoyed with our friends from Christ the King.  On Oct 5th, we had about 5-6 families tailgating in our church parking lot and then we walked over to the Bishop Chatard football game.  In typical fashion, as most kids are waiting for the concession stand, Allison is intensely watching the game.  For those of you that haven’t had the chance to interact with Allison recently, she will frequently ask “is there any football on TV?”  The other event we went to was a Barndance which was sponsored by some parents as a fundraiser.  It wasn’t exactly like our college days, but we did have fun and enjoyed some fireball and beer next to the fire!

Sarah’s Things of the Month

Sarah went to a birthday party in our neighborhood for her friend Lauren.  She went on a field trip to an apple orchard with the entire kindergarten class.  She had a playdate with one of her classmates who lives very close to us, Alexa.  What we realized is that we haven’t made enough efforts to help Sarah hang out with her classmates, so we have made an effort to get her those opportunities.

Allison’s Thing of the Month

Allison went to Tristan and Cooper’s birthday party which was at Broad Ripple Park.  She went on a field trip to Conner Prairie.   She also enjoyed getting back involved with her classmates with the Brownies troop.  The cross country season ended with a pasta dinner and “fun run” in early October.  They also had a brunch after mass where each runner was acknowledged for improvement and having a good attitude during the season.  Allison lost one of her front top teeth.  It was the first one she has lost on her own (the other 2 had to get pulled by the dentist).  She wanted to pull it out all by herself, and she did.

A few more items from this month:

  • I had lunch with one of my college buddies, Brian Geddes.  He has always been someone to bounce career ideas off of and gives me a straight answer when I need it.
  • Deb and I went to John and Carrie Oblazney’s birthday party.  John has been someone that I’ve worked with at Hurco and now at Herff Jones.  They have always been people that we can look to for advice and support regardless of our working relationship.
  • Debbie volunteered in Sarah’s classroom this past month.  She also helped organize the Halloween party for both 2nd grade classes.
  • Our entire family went to Zoe Campbell’s birthday party at the K of C.  They had a magician along with snacks, cake and beers.  The magic was good, but having beer at a kid’s birthday party is better!
  • At work, we had our annual finance conference.  It was a shorter version this year (2 days) and we went downtown the Escape Room and Punch Bowl Social for dinner.
  • I went to a Purdue Leadership Forum in early October.  There were several athletes there from the last 20 years, so many of the stories I was familiar with and enjoyed listening to their comments.
  • As we have for many years, we hosted our neighborhood Halloween party.  Everyone comes over at 5PM to socialized and eat pizza before we turn the kids loose to go trick or treating.  We were very lucky this year as it rained all day and then stopped just in time for the party.
