April 2019

April 2019

April started off with a road trip for Spring Break, Sarah’s birthday, had several sports along the way and ended with Allison celebrating her birthday and first communion on the same day!  This particular month will always be a busy one due to birthdays, but adding sports and spring break to the mix, along with first communion had us on the go!

We started off the month driving to Florida for a fun spring break with the Andersons and Watkins.  We went back to the same place we went last June with Debbie’s parents and Julie’s family.  While we expected the weather to be a little cooler, we didn’t expect the rain and wind that came along with it.  This had us inside playing cards, watching March Madness and catching up with friends when the weather didn’t cooperate.  We also did some shopping and bike riding when it wasn’t ideal to be at the beach or pool.  Allison and I did go parasailing one day and she really enjoyed it.  The last 24 hours of the trip were not ideal as I cut my hand before we left and needed 3 stitches, Sarah got car sick and puked all over herself about 4 hours into an 11 hour drive, and Debbie fell at a gas station and bruised her knees, elbows and ego.  The best part of the trip was just hanging out with 2 families that we don’t get to see as much as we wish due to schedules.  It was also pretty impressive how all of the girls go along considering the age differences and how often they get a chance to see each other.

Allison prepared all month for her first communion.  We spent an afternoon decorating her first communion cup and also went to a practice on Thursday evening.  On the morning of the big day, which was also her birthday, she wanted to wear her dress immediately.  She told us that the wine tasted awful and can’t understand why mommy likes drinking it at home!  It was extra special because the priest that baptized Allison was there (Fr. Bonke) along with Fr. Todd.  Everyone came back to our house and we celebrated the first communion and then transitioned to a combined birthday party for Allison & Sarah.

Sarah’s Things of the Month

We drove home from FL on Sarah’s birthday and celebrated with cake and presents.  She had a great birthday and we are still so shocked she is 6 years old already.  Sarah has really improved her soccer skills and seems to be moving around on the field a little faster.  She has scored a few goals and is enjoying playing with her friends and having Debbie coach.

Allison’s Thing of the Month

Allison is playing U8 soccer and probably should be playing U10.  She is playing well and she wanted to keep playing for her favorite coach (Mo).  Allison is also participating in a basketball league at Park Tudor with several of her classmates and they are the youngest team.  They have benefitted from playing stronger competition and don’t let the score bother them.

A few more items from this month:

  • Deb took each of the girls for the first pedicure while on spring break.  Allison and Sarah loved their pained toes.
  • Beth and I usually meet up for lunch every month or so but since she has had the baby, we decided it was easier for me to just come to her house for a beer to catch up.  I enjoyed two evenings over hanging out with her and Matt.
  • Both girls took the plunge and signed up for the swim team this June.  I’m excited to see how Sarah does with the competitions and practices.
  • Deb took an afternoon off on Good Friday and took the Sniadecki boys along with our girls to the Children’s Museum for an afternoon of fun.  That evening, both families went out to dinner at Buca di Beppo.
  • At a fundraiser last year, we purchased a package where the kids get to spend a few hours with the kindergarten teachers at one of their houses.  The kids were excited and decorated some eggs, ate some pancakes and watched a movie.
  • We celebrated Easter quietly with the Dodsons along with Chris.  The girls enjoyed searching for eggs and helping Molly find a few eggs in the basement.
