May 2019

May 2019
During the month of May, we had the usual end of the school-year events with field trips, plenty of sports and a kindergarten graduation.  Debbie and I also went on a trip to Jamaica with some friends to celebrate most of us turning 40.  You can tell that we have had several things going on to start of the summer as I'm a few days getting this posted, so let's get started.
The highlight of the month was going with the Ragos, Bencks and Depps to Jamaica.  We all flew out from our respective cities and met up in Charlotte for the flight to Jamaica.  We stayed at Secrets Wild Orchid and arrived in time for lunch and start our trip.  Most days we would meet up at the beach by mid-morning and enjoy our transition from coffee to beer & mixed drinks.  We would stay out until late afternoon and then head back to our rooms to clean up before dinner.  We were able to sit together for each dinner and enjoyed the entertainment.  We ventured over to another resort we had access to, and the DJ was playing all kinds rap music from the late 90's which was helpful to keep Debbie awake!  We all decided that we shouldn't wait another milestone birthday before planning a trip like that again!
The girl’s events and plans this month was a little overwhelming.  We had choir, basketball, soccer, swim lessons and brownies.  Allison participates in the children's choir and they sang with the adult choir at church on Mother’s Day.  Allison also ended the basketball league she did with her classmates at Park Tudor.  They improved all year long and won the last game even though they were younger than all the other teams.  Soccer continued for both of them, where Debbie coaches Sarah's team and Allison plays for a family friend of ours, Mo.  Sarah ended her swimming lessons in preparation to join the swim team this summer at our pool.  Finally, Allison's brownies troop invited all the younger girls in other grades to join them for the final troop meeting of the year.  Sarah enjoyed participating and I think would be interested if a troop was created.
Sarah’s Things of the Month
Sarah’s class went to the zoo and Debbie volunteered as a chaperone.  She also went to a birthday party for Vivian at the Creative Corner (same spot that Sarah had her birthday party).  Sarah also graduated from kindergarten in a fun ceremony on the last day of school.  She and her friends got to watch a video slideshow and she received a scrapbook that her teacher made.
Allison’s Thing of the Month
Allison had a slight issue come up at her wellness check this year.  The doctor heard a murmur in her heart.  We called Aunt Beth who was able to get an echo booked quickly and they ruled out anything serious.  Allison had a fantastic field day as her team won the most events and got 1st place!  She and I are a lot alike, so since she is humble and not competitive, she wasn’t too excited about it…
A few more items from this month:
  • Deb and I went to another class party, this time for the 2nd grade.  We enjoyed a fun trivia night at the Felts house and watching the derby.
  • Deb went to a New Kids on the Block concert with two friends.  They had a blast singing some old favorites.
  • Debbie enjoyed a rainy Mother’s Day, so we went to get flowers the day before from Lowes and spent the Saturday planting the flowers and the garden.
  • We are back at the Knights of Columbus pool most weekends as a family and most weekdays the girls go for swim team practice followed by a trip some days to hang out with friends.
  • We were over at the Dodsons a few times this month.  Once was to celebrate Molly’s birthday and another was for Beth and I to just catch-up as we have found it a little easier to meet up in the evening then trying to schedule lunch plans.
  • I went to see Tom Segura with Jeremy and Lawton on May 30th.  Jeremy scored from free tickets from work and we went downtown and had some pizza and beers before the show.
