May is over and so is the school year.  The kids did a pretty good job as they got into the routine of eLearning and Zoom to keep some sort of normalcy to the end of the school year.  The teachers at CKS did a fantastic job keeping the kids as motivated and engaged as they could.  The girls did their best to celebrate their teachers by sending them letters, making videos and doing a drive-by.  The last day of school is usually a fun day ending with a school-wide ice cream party at Broad Ripple park. Deb took them to Dairy Queen and we celebrated virtually!

Our weekends have been freed up more than ever, but we held out hope that our pool would still be partially open this summer.  They decided to cancel the season which left us with some free time on the weekends.  We decided to take advantage of that and went hiking at Marott Park the last Saturday in May. The girls enjoyed exploring the park along with climbing up some hills and stomping around in the creek.  Afterwards, we stopped at a bike shop in Broad Ripple to get the brakes repaired on Debbie’s bike and showed the girls the condo that we used to live on and walked a little on the Monon Trail.

We have continued to spend a lot of time with several of our neighbors and have enjoyed several cookouts.  On Memorial Day weekend, we were fortunate to be invited over to the Sipe’s house to listen to the race on the radio, over to the Sniadeck’s back deck to watch some golf match and then over to the Verspelt’s house on Memorial Day.  We got a chance to reconnect with the Stone family at their house the last weekend in May.

With some more time on our hands, we have spent several hours in our yard simply being outside but also taking care of some projects.  I spent a few hours one weekend digging up a stump of a tree we took down last fall.  We also removed our sandbox as our kids have outgrown it and gave it to one of our neighbors.  Debbie and the girls planted our usual flowers and garden as part of celebrating Mother’s Day.

Sarah’s Things of the Month

Sarah’s bike riding has really improved and she has moved up to Allison’s old bike.

Allison’s Thing of the Month

Allison outgrew her bike and one of Deb’s co-workers found a bike for her and tuned it up.  She loves it and enjoys the ability to “pedal backwards.”

A few more items from this month:

  • Mother’s Day was a little rainy this year. The girls got up early and decorated the house and also made Debbie breakfast in bed.
  • Debbie was excited to finally get her hair cut.  She also crossed county lines to get a pedicure.
  • As we lightened up a little bit on our quarantine, we let the girls play outside with Beth’s kids during the month.
  • I got a chance to Zoom with Brad Lyons during the month.  It was great to catch up and see everything that was going on for him.
  • Jeremy and I got together a few times at each other’s house.  We shot some hoops at my place and he continued giving me haircuts.
  • Brandon and Diane came over for a few beers on a Sunday afternoon.  We enjoyed hanging out for a few hours on our back deck.
