May 2022

May had us running around from softball to track along with the excitement of the last month of school. The girls enjoyed getting out of school on the Friday before Memorial Day and going to Broad Ripple Park to enjoy some Kona Ice with many students from the school.

In our second year with the girls playing softball, I’d say the girls are enjoying a sport that they both have really improved.  Sarah is on a team (minors) with many of her friends and being coached by many of the same dads from last year’s team.  She has been hitting the ball consistently and does a good job in the field usually playing pitcher helper, 3rd base or catcher.  Allison is the starting pitcher for her team (AAA) and also has done a good job playing first base.  She has substituted a couple of times in the majors and held her own with hitting the ball well and playing outfield.  All of this softball has turned into us watching lots of softball and baseball on TV which leads to more questions about the sport.

I tried to do a few things this month that we haven’t done with the girls.  The first one was going to IMS to watch the “fast 12” to see who was going to win the pole position for the Indy 500.  Our neighbor, Phil, offered to take us along with his kids as I had no idea really what I was doing.  We got there and got great seats so we could see Turns 1, 2 & 4.  The girls asked all kinds of questions about the cars and drivers and I just had to tell them to ask Phil, because I had no idea.  The second thing that I did was take Sarah to a farmer’s market with Tom and Tracy.  Sarah got to have a breakfast sandwich, learn some things about the market from Tom and Tracy and enjoyed some Indiana strawberries.  Finally, we all took a bike ride from our house to Broad Ripple to get some ice cream at BRICS.  This was by far the longest bike ride we have ever taken as a family and while it was fun, it was also a little stressful  navigating our way there and back.   https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1QztQpLk1pG8bA-O0Fg96Zq3VtbsTJsKx

Sarah’s Things of the Month

Sarah completed her kickball season where she and 2 of the girls from her class played with mostly 4th graders.  She had fun playing with the older girls and learning more about kickball.  She also went to a birthday party at Buff City Soap with most of the girls in her class.

Allison’s Thing of the Month

Allison completed her track season by finishing in the top 10 in the softball throw in her division.  She also competing in long jump and one of the relay races.

A few more items from this month:

  • We celebrated Mother’s Day with Sarah serving Deb breakfast in bed. We then spent the day planting flowers and working on the yard.
  • We went over to the Verspelts for a cookout and to watch the Kentucky Derby.
  • Deb went with to see New Kids on the Block in concert downtown with several of her friends.  They went to dinner before and enjoyed acting like they were in Jr. High.
  • Kathy came to visit for a weekend in May. The weekend was packed with softball games and Molly’s birthday party.
  • Deb and I celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary by going to dinner at Sullivan’s.
  • We went to the annual CKS sports award night and the girls received their recognition for all of the sports they played this year at school.
  • We went to an Indy 500 party at the Sipes house on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.
  • Once again, we joined the pool at the K of C this year.  It has been fun getting back into the swing of going to the pool.  The girls have chosen to not do the swim team this year which should free up part of our schedule in June.   https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1eNF4Q52CiD3pc4whYmaihRfcUiPd2Vgfhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1wLz2Ozy_IhULOajOreDbjA37HxFA01sehttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1bb5CuHCdHOLW8YaLjuzHs6eHQlMoOQYb
