June 2022

Our first month of summer has seen the end of our softball season, the girls participating in a few camps at Chatard and a successful week of preparing and participating for the return of the Summer Social at our church.  We have also enjoyed spending plenty of time at the pool.

Softball season ended with a double elimination tournament for both girls. Both girls’ teams were the #5 seed and Allison’s team was eliminated early in the tournament.  Sarah’s team played well all year, but really started hitting the ball really well and playing great defense and won 4 straight games to win the championship.  Sarah played really well in the field knowing where the ball should go on defense to get an out and also hitting the ball extremely well.  Her coach, who is a good friend of ours, had a deal with any girl who caught a foul ball while playing catcher he would give her $5. Well, at the end of one of the playoff games, Sarah caught the last out as a foul ball and just turned to her coach and smiled.  It was a great season for both girls and they really enjoyed playing and are looking forward to playing next year.

Continuing our effort to do “new things” I decided to take the girls to a ziplining & rope course in Noblesville on a Saturday morning in June.  The girls enjoyed it and really showed little to no fear while climbing in the trees and ziplining.  The only time we had any issues at all was when they went backwards a little bit on the ziplines and would need to propel themselves back to the landing spot.

This month marked the return of our Summer Social at our church.  This is always a busy week for everyone involved as several parents spend Monday thru Thursday setting everything up, Friday and Saturday cleaning it up and enjoying the fun, and then tearing it all down on Sunday.  There were several dads of younger kids involved this year, so that was fun as it allowed for me to bring the girls to play while we were setting up.  The weather was great and we had a very successful turnout.  I helped out as much as I could and Deb & Allison cut up some strawberries on evening.  Sarah enjoyed playing with her friends and practicing on the games in “Tiger Town.”

Sarah’s Things of the Month

Sarah had fun at the basketball & volleyball camps at Chatard this month.  She also had a fun overnight with Maeve during Allison’s sleepover with her friends.

Allison’s Thing of the Month

Allison enjoyed the basketball & volleyball camps at Chatard.  She also had a delayed birthday party sleepover with several of her friends.

A few more items from this month:

  • I made a work trip to Wisconsin and stopped in Chicago on the way to spend an evening with the Rago family.  Joe and I had a great time catching up and sitting around the fire enjoyed some bourbon.
  • During the evening of the sleepovers, I found myself with 7 girls in the house so I decided it was best for me to head over to a neighbor’s house for most of the evening.
  • The girls enjoyed a day at Top Golf.  They went with the family of the girl who is watching them this summer.
  • I’m training to hike the Grand Canyon in September at a leadership retreat at work. I’ve been doing some stair workouts and also some longer hikes and it has been challenging but also fun to try something new.
  • Jeremy and I went to play some frisbee golf and went out for lunch at Ale Emporium.
